We started this project in late summer, in an end-terrace cottage surrounded by stunning views and bathed in an abundance of natural light.

The clients discovered our work through our Instagram page, and they reached out to us to design, supply & install their kitchen & transform their utility space. This project became an excellent example of our ability to cleverly optimise design details to work within a client’s budget, all while keeping the desired look in mind.

At Gabriel’s, we’re all about giving our clients options to suit their needs. Whether it’s completely handmade bespoke cabinetry or high-quality, non-bespoke choices, we guide our clients based on their budget and wish list. For this project, we opted for non-bespoke cabinet sizes, custom-sprayed in the client’s preferred colour, allowing plenty of scope for personalisation that was also budget-friendly.

We also introduced carefully selected bespoke elements, like the beautifully crafted moulded plinth and chimney surround, adding that touch of handcrafted charm that makes our designs stand out. This mix of bespoke and non-bespoke is one of the hallmarks of what we do and sets us apart from your typical high-street retailer.

One of the standout features of this design is our thoughtfully chosen palette. We went for cabinets painted in Farrow & Ball’s “Strong White,” an antique mirror splashback, and brushed brass hardware. This combination creates a space that’s calming and utterly unique. The cool and neutral cabinet colours play perfectly with the warm, inviting brass accents, while the oak herringbone flooring, installed by our trusted flooring partner, adds that extra layer of warmth and character to the room.

When we start designing your space, colours and finishes are secondary to the layout. When considering how a space feels, we must pay close attention to symmetry and scale. You’ll hear us talk about this during our initial conversations and the design process.

Take the range cooker, for example. It’s beautifully framed by cabinets of identical width on both sides, with generous pan drawer cabinets topped with dressers. It’s all about creating a sense of balance and proportion. The chimney area is thoughtfully designed, with practical storage on either side of the cooker, framed by dressers and a decorative chimney surround above. It’s these details that add to the understated luxury of the space, and it’s all in the proportions!

The antique mirror splashback was chosen to reflect the wonderful natural light. Antique mirror works well for this purpose – it’s easy to care for as there’s no grout to clean and it disguises any splashes from cooking.

In the space behind the kitchen, we created a utility space across one wall. With a space for the washing machine & other household items to be hidden away plus a second Belfast sink, it flows seamlessly from the main kitchen.

The result is a space that delivers the high-end wow factor for a surprisingly affordable budget. We are delighted with the results and more importantly, the clients are too.
